Time to Go

“Time to go!”

How many times in our lives have we heard that phrase? Mom calling to us when we were children. Bosses  reminding us of meetings. Friends wanting us to move just a little faster because there was fun ahead waiting for us. time-to-go-986031_1920

What about that still small voice that nudges at you, but you can’t quite make out what it means? Time to go? No, can’t be. What about the words from the pulpit each week that lay a little more foundation on direction for your life. Time to go? Eh, not yet. What about the things in the world around you that eat at you because you see the injustice, the pain, the anger, and yes, the evil. Time to go? Please, no.

Time is a funny thing. Our lives seem to revolve around it, but God has no need for it. Why would someone who is timeless limit themselves to time restrictions? But He knew we would need it. For a while, anyway. He has taught us there is a time for everything.

Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison— that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak. Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.  Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. – Colossians 4:2-6

Time to go! In our walk of faith that phrase can mean so many things, as the verses above show. Time to go into thanksgiving, a time to go to prayer. A time to go into the world to declare Christ to others, to use wisdom, using time to our advantage to share Christ. Time to go to available resources to  know and understand the Holy Scriptures, being seasoned with salt; learning how to provide an answer to anyone who might ask those questions about your faith, about God, and about salvation.

Time to go! It is never a one-time occurrence if you are listening to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes you are in multiple places in relatively short amounts of time.  Sometimes He will settle you in one place for many years and suddenly lead you somewhere else. For yourself, or for others, inevitably change impacts all concerned.

Lessons in the life of a believer never end. Which means we are told at various times in our lives that it is time to go. Perhaps to deliver us from something. To use us to disciple others. To teach us when we’ve become too confident in our own knowledge or wisdom. To give us respite and a time for gentle healing.

Don’t be afraid when it becomes clear in your life that it is ‘Time to go’. When God is directing your steps, He is supplying your needs, protecting your heart, and fulfilling a purpose currently missing in your life.

Come on, adventure awaits you. Time to go!!
