I want to be able to write about the ‘stuff’ that is happening all around us. I want to be able to offer a clear solution. The thing is, I hear and read viewpoints from different people groups, and it paints a picture much like a mosaic of broken glass of different colors. But that’s the reality of it all. We are all different. We see things differently. Our realities are vastly different in many, many cases. I can’t discount the truth in what has happened to so many. And I won’t make excuses, for myself, for anyone. But if we don’t have a central thread to tie us all together, that mosaic would crumble in a million pieces and picking it up and putting it back together would be…well, impossible.
But, what is that thread? Is it the law? Is it religion? Wow, even in that there are so many different strands, some of them loose and slippery. How can we stop the spinning that ends in devastating crashes?
So, what I write ends up being more questions. Questions that reflect a sense of helplessness, sadness, and yes, anger, at the things happening around us. Emotions that target people who are hurting others. Emotions that target those who have been hurt. Emotions that target the leaders who are trying, but hitting stone walls. Emotions that target the people who have become the stone walls.
What, God? What? How, God? How?
I am a Believer. I accepted, by faith, Jesus as my Lord, and my Savior. Therefore, all questions end up like the above, going directly to God.
This is war. I’ve seen it on signs all weekend. I’m wondering how we can fight the same war. I choose to get my eyes off myself, my own emotions. I choose instead to demonstrate the love God has shown me. In using what skill I have, in whatever method I have, to encourage, to share hope. To not avoid the reality, to not hide my head in the sand, but to lift my head upwards to seek Him for answers I know I don’t have.
What is the thread that in my heart I believe is what will hold us together? Repentance where needed. Self-sacrifice where needed. Prayer. Love. Basically, a life lived according to what God has shown us through the God-Breathed words we call the Holy Bible. As supernatural as you can get! Power!
And so, to get started on this Monday, teachings from the Bible:
2Cor. 10:3-5 (ESV) For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,
1 Peter 5:8-9 (ESV) Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.
Eph. 6:11-17 (ESV) Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,
Be safe. Trust God. It may not be our final home, but it is where we have been planted. Do the best you can, where you are, in pointing people to a peace that comes only from God.
Blessings – Vicki
