Whoever …

Judgement can be an uncomfortable discussion for many. As can eternal life.

John 3:16 is a familiar Biblical verse, even to non-believers – God’s proclamation that believing in Jesus would bring eternal life with Him. I can remember how a bible study teaching of John 3 changed my life. Seven of us sitting in a living room full of the smell of coffee, laughter, questions, and knowledge, and suddenly I was aware of none of it as the depth of those verses overwhelmed my thoughts, blocking all else out. When people started talking, moving to call the evening done, I glanced up from staring at the verses and saw the pastor teaching the class smiling at me. He had watched it happening. I smiled back, knowing it wouldn’t be long before we had a long discussion. I had moved from believer in Jesus to a whole new level of discipleship.

In remembering that evening, I realized how I was letting that particular wonder become dimmer.

Evangelism at one time was a focus. I took lessons to train others to evangelize. I taught evangelism classes. I did visitations, I did prayer sessions. But, life changed, focus changed, and time went forward. Even after walking through life with Jesus for forty two years, the older I get the more I realize just how much I don’t know. So, I am in the process of taking a systematic study on Soteriology, the study of Salvation. God has a plan for my later years, and I’ve never lost the love of studying God’s Word.

I’ve included part of John 3 in this post. Like never before, the word whoever seemed to come alive with the power of God’s love. Being a believer is not an easy life. There will be things I never understand. There will always be hard things to accept. But I am whoever, and rejoice in that.

I’m going to start a study on the book of John. Maybe some of it will be here. I may create a special page on this website for the study. Those studies will probably begin next week, and I’ve added below a link to the Facebook page I set up for future studies.

All of that is still in the works. But one thing I do know, being a whoever is a wonderous thing to be, and I sincerely hope you can claim that, at any level, as well.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.” John 3:16-21 (ESV)
